Fossil Exploration is one of two interactive prototypes created by the Interactive Arts and Media team in collaboration with the Field Museum.
Testing at the Field Museum revealed that customers expected certain touch gestures, like pinch zoom and rotate, to be usable on the prototype.
I wrote a touch manager script that keeps track of whose hand is whose, and which touches are doing what, so that multiple users can use multitouch gestures to manipulate their fossil.
Each script handling things like selection of new fossils, rotation in 3d space, or camera zoom can subscribe to events in the touch manager to be updated on only touches that are relevant to their functionality.
Interface design is something I'm working on but it's not my strong point. A lot of my work in Unity recently has been UI-centric and so I definitely want to get better at designing usable and fun interfaces. For this product, though, I already had a solid team of designers and testers informing the final layout and interaction, so I deferred to their judgement.
I'm proud of my ability to create 'something from nothing' but I'm also very good at following instructions. This prototype, and other work like the FOODME website or Mix Acupuncture Website show my ability to translate a wireframe or sketch into a functional product.
